As you move throughout the countryside a rider appears in the distance and begins to close quickly. Hand going to your weapons you ready yourself for danger but notice the rider is very young. Timmy Little introduces himself and warns you of a bout of Goblin-Pox at his village. Many people are sick and need help. Timmy says he and other young people have been sent out to find heroes to save the town and asks if you can help. While the boy cannot provide a great deal of information on the malady he advises you that the people of Troburtandban who aren’t sick can help with information. Barrow of the Culder is the initial adventure in the dangerous land of Provincia. Carrying on from this month’s free adventure, this scenario brings the adventuring party together in the small community of Merrydale. Provost Nigel Faurious’s continued planar research has uncovered a reference to a sapphire amulet and a map with general directions to the entrance of the Shining Valley deep within the Graywall Mountains. He believes that the Valley is an Irian manifest zone, capable of charging the sapphire and granting unknown healing properties. The Provost has already acquired the sapphire and contracted Lhara, a female shifter within the Clifftop Adventurers’ Guild, to put forth a writ calling for adventurers to follow the map he uncovered and discover if the amulet’s properties are authentic. Unbeknownst to the Provost, a flight of harpies known as the Haunting Song is already living within the Shining Valley after escaping an attack on their lives by two other flights. The characters will have to convince these current inhabitants that they mean no harm. The harpies have already learned the healing properties of the valley and have been raising a new generation without any outside interference, but due to the party’s recent expedition, an oncoming war party has been spotted and the harpies now demand they assist in defending their home.

This is Part 1 of an adventure designed for characters of the 20th to 21st level About 200 years ago a horrific massacre took place on the remote Soron island of Heikun. For months, the deranged and corrupt priests had sought to create a race of hybrid Snake-Men...a race which they believed once existed in Soro. They kidnapped folk from surrounding villages and took them back to their temple. There they performed unspeakable rites and experiments. Sensing their debasement, the dark spirits of the mountains called to the priests in their dreams, luring them down into the vast sub-levels beneath the Pyramid. Somewhere in the cavernous depths they were touched by an eternal evil and given horrific new forms. The deformed priest-things of Heikun crawled back to the surface, systematically destroying all living creatures in their path, including the city's hapless, ineffective leader: the inbred boy-king Yusef.
When a wizard makes a mistake, he makes a MISTAKE. Hirward the Wizard has a little problem on his hands - and it's destroying his fortress, followers and future. A good mix of character types is strongly advised, but paladins, rangers, dwarves, and gnomes may not be comfortable sparing the lives of Hirward’s kobold assistants. A generally neutral party composed of humans and half-orcs will stand the best chance of completing Hirward’s Task. This not a standard "hack-and-slash” adventure.
