Dunerigger takes place in a desert, and the adventure begins in a garrison city at the desert's edge. Because of its position on several trade routes and its cool spring waters, the city is fairly prosperous and work is easy to find, though poorly paid. Faisal al'Farilreem is a successful merchant-adventurer, who fancies himself as a scholar of desert lore and history. He has heard reports of stonework and artefacts being uncovered in sandstorms, only to be buried again during the next. He is looking for an escort to take him and two 'companions' where he can investigate these mysteries at first hand. The journey will result in the discovery of an ancient dunerigger, a "sailing ship" of the desert.
For over a decade, mystery has surrounded the fate of the lost goddess of trade and wealth, Waukeen. The Golden Lady disappeared during the Time of Troubles and has not been heard from since. Now, in Marpenoth in the Year of the Tankard (1370 DR), a young prophet suffers from disturbing, divine visions that reveal a beautiful, golden-tressed woman imprisoned on a far plane of existence by some great evil. The leader of Waukeen's church believes that these visions mean Waukeen is alive but trapped in the deadly and dangerous Abyss. A party of adventurers is dedicated to peeling back the mystery of the Golden Lady's fate. Their route takes them to the plane-spanning Infinite Staircase and beyond, to the Abyss, the home of the demonic tanar'ri. The heroes must brave the dangers of the Abyss and rescue the lost goddess from the clutches of one of the most brilliant and dangerous of all Abyssal lords. This stand-alone adventure was developed in concert with the Planescape adventure anthology Tales from the Infinite Staircase. They can be played separately. However, guidelines within both allow a Dungeon Master to use either product as a subplot for the other, creating new opportunities for player characters and extending the opportunity for adventure.
Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands upon the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Lightning splits the sky, its cold light revealing a tall form wrapped in a billowing cape of shadows. Another flash exposes a face full of power and madness, contorted by a tragedy darker than the night. Far below, a party of adventurers has entered his dread domain. He smiles. Another lightning bolt rips through the night, but the figure is gone. Only a howling wind fills the midnight air. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner - and you're invited! Originally published in 1985, this classic adventure for four to eight characters of levels 5 to 7 mixes elements of gothic horror with AD&D fantasy for a unique experience. Updated to 2nd Edition, Ravenloft features a haunted castle, gypsy fortunetellers, a tragic back story, and a vampire who is as powerful and intelligent as he is frightening - a menace worthy of the bravest adventuring party! From the magazine: "A rotting ship holds the secrets of all the universe, but its crew wants you only for the 'fuel' you carry." This scenario is useful for launching players into a Spelljammer campaign. The players are tasked with investigating a derelict ship that fell from the sky. The ship is captained by a spectre and crewed by a host of undead enemies. Clearing the ship gives the players the possibility of a Spelljammer ship as well as access to several wheel-lock pistols and ammunition (the biggest treasure from the adventure). The adventure takes place in the Forgotten Realms setting, though it may be easily altered to fit any other campaign world. Module LC1 Gateway to Ravens Bluff, The Living City, would be helpful, as the city of Ravens Bluff is suggested as the PCs' starting point for this adventure. Any other city can be substituted without difficulty. Pgs. 29-37
